South Florida Bicycle Trails

We've recently resumed bicycling again. We are recreational (slow) bike riders, not Lance Armstrongs or mountain bikers. Here are some bike trails that we've ridden. We're adding more every other week or so.

Royal Palm Beach Commons

Royal Palm Beach Commons

I'll admit, I was pretty surprised when I visited Royal Palm Beach Commons in Royal Palm Beach. I was honestly expecting some thing much smaller, along the lines of Veterans Park, which is nice, but Royal Palm Beach Commons is on a totally different level. Royal Palm Beach Commons, also known as Village Commons Park, sits just south of Veterans Park on Royal Palm Beach Blvd., and has a lot more amenities. First off, they managed to keep a bunch of huge trees, and they planted more to go along with them. There are pretty bodies of water, bridges, and a few neat playgrounds. The park has lots of small picnic shelters, as well as a grand covered picnic area aside the Banquet Garden. There's also a sporting center, volleyball courts, a kayak launch, a jogging trail, and even a dog park. A wedding pavilion sits along the 10-acre "Great Lawn", which also hosts many special event, including a trendy food truck "invasion". I'm not 100% certain on this, but I think there's also a restaurant here in the (very large) main building, any maybe a snack counter elsewhere in the park. Royal Palm Beach Commons just opened in fall of 2013. I stopped by on kind of a whim just to check it out, and with low expectations. I was pretty impressed with everything offered here, and I'm looking forward to heading back with my bike and exploring more thoroughly!  (Royal Palm Beach Commons continued)
