Coral Gables Waterway
Real estate developer George Merrick planned and built Coral Gables, one of the first planned communities in the United States. The Coral Gables Waterway led from the Biltmore Hotel to Biscayne Bay. We couldn't get any further in than the Granada Blvd bridge because the more inland route is closed during manatee season. The waterway is interesting, there are huge houses on both sides and many boathouses cut into the limestone. One homeowner yelled at us for not going "idle speed", which was essentially impossible in our 17' boat due to the swift current.Location:
