Named for West Palm Beach's first parks director, Dreher Park covers 113 acres just south of downtown West Palm Beach. Housed in the park are the Palm Beach Zoo and a small science museum (for now, until it moves to its new location). The park offers a wide variety of pasttimes including picnic shelters (with charcoal grills), rental pavilions, and playgrounds. At least one of the smaller "playgrounds" is more like an interactive sculpture - very futuristic and artistic in look, yet designed for climbing and play. There are lakes and a fishing pier, walking paths, and lots of open space for frisbee-throwing or simply running around. As a novelty for those of us who've been in South Florida for a while, there are some man-made "hills", higher than most bumps in the natural landscape, and just perfect for rolling down! A very peaceful park, you'll spend a relaxing time here while the kids romp.
