Governor Lawton Chiles Memorial Park
Named after Florida's popular former governor, Lawton Chiles Memorial Park is situated on 19 acres in beautiful Delray Beach. There's the standard picnic pavilion (reserve by calling 561-495-9813) and another area with tables. Horseshoe pits and sand volleyball courts provide entertainment for anyone, and there's softball field available by permit (call 561-495-9813 for permits).What stands out most to me about this park is the claim of a "petanque" court. "Petanque"? Quick internet research indicates that petanque is a bocce-like game. I have to wonder how popular this game is among Delray Beach residents!
The park is open sunrise to sunset, with the lighted facilities open until 11:00 PM when in use. Restrooms are provided.
