Margaret van de Velde Park / Harney Pond Recreation Area

While officially named Margaret van de Velde Park, this area is more widely known among boaters and fishing enthusiasts as Harney Pond Recreation Area. This park is long and narrow, with three separate 2-lane boat ramps. There are eight picnic tables and three shelters. This is apparently a popular park among fishermen as the canal leads to Lake Okeechobee and fantastic bass fishing.

My favorite part of Harney Pond Recreation Area is the long boardwalk up to the observation area. You get an amazing view of the surrounding area, and the sound of the birds is almost overwhelming.

This park is located just south of the intersection of SR 78 and CR 721 on the west side of Lake Okeechobee.
