The Okeeheelee Nature Center is a nice little museum of natural Florida. There are aquariums and displays, rodents and reptiles - the last time I was there they even had a little screech owl named Hootie! There's a wooden boardwalk/porch that encircles the center, and the whole center is wheelchair-accessible.Nearly three miles of trails run through the adjacent 90 acres of woods, past native flora and fauna (including deer!), at least one water skiing lake, and (unfortunately, for a moment) Florida's Turnpike. The center is located within Okeeheelee Park and is open Tuesday - Friday, 1:00-4:30; Saturday, 8:15-4:30; and Sunday in September through May, 1:00-4:30. It is closed in on Monday. The nature trails are open daily sunrise to sunset.
