Round Island Riverfront Park

Round Island Riverfront Park 2009 UPDATE: We visited Round Island park in early October to launch our boat, and to our surprise and great pleasure, there was a big group of manatees hanging out in the lagoon area! I counted at least four at once, so there were probably even more. Apparently they've been in the area since at least August. Hopefully boaters will be exercise caution when motoring through here! Also - please don't bother the manatees! I was pretty horrified when a group of people in canoes started "petting" the creatures.

Oh, the restrooms were closed. Thanks again, Indian River County!

Original Article:
Round Island Riverfront Park is located on North Hutchinson Island in Indian River County. The park has a small playground, a couple of picnic pavilions, and restrooms. There is also a wooden bridge and walkway over to the edge of the Indian River. A big observation tower allows for a fairly good view of the river. While boating in, we saw osprey hammering finger mullet right in the area that this tower overlooks. Because the park sits in a estuary, it was pretty darn humid when we visited in late September.

Round Island Riverfront Park (Round Island Park West) has two boat ramps suitable for launching small to medium boats, probably anything under 21'. There were roughly 25 trailer parking spaces. Like most of the boat ramps in northern St Lucie County, the parking lot did not seem to be anywhere near capacity, even on a summer weekend day. We saw fish everywhere, and I suspect that there is really good fishing in this part of the Indian River Lagoon.

It looks like there is also an oceanfront side of this park, but we managed to miss that somehow.
