Gumbo Limbo Environmental Complex
The Gumbo Limbo Environmental Conservatory is an excellent place to visit for a few lessons in native Florida landscape and wildlife. The centerpiece of this complex, which covers 20 acres of Red Reef Park in Boca Raton, is a large nature center, filled with educational exhibits and classrooms. Family-oriented programs are run here regularly, and a full schedule can be found on the web site. Outside you'll find a boardwalk weaving through the tropical hammock, where the wildlife viewing is incredible, and the view from the 40-foot observation tower is simply astounding. Research programs of all sorts make their homes here, including the annual Boca Raton Sea Turtle Conservation and Research Program. There are four large outdoor open aquarium here, and they're my favorite part of this park. If you're lucky, you'll get to touch a stingray or a shark! The complex is open from 9 to 4 Monday through Saturday, and 12 to 4 on Sunday. A donation of $3 per person is suggested and appreciated.
