Located on Peanut Island in the Intracoastal Waterway off of West Palm Beach, the Kennedy Bunker was just recently reopened to the public. The bomb shelter was built in the early 60's to serve as a temporary operations center during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and is a short ten-minute boat trip from the Kennedy Estate on Palm Beach. The bunker is buried 25 feet below ground, and was flooded when the Palm Beach Maritime Museum acquired it. The original furniture was destroyed, but much has been replaced with authentic pieces from the era, including bunk beds, a desk, and drums that held drinking water.
The bunker is open Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30AM to 4:30PM. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for students, and free for children five and under.
Price range: $8.00-$10.00 per person
