Along the northern shore of Lake Okeechobee and just a few miles outside the city of Okeechobee sits Lake Okeechobee Recreation Area. The name seems a bit grand, as there are only two things here: a long observation and fishing pier, and a crude boat ramp. Apparently the fishing for crappie is good, and there are a variety of birds; however, I don't fish or bird-watch, so I found it a bit boring. The boat ramp has three lanes with no docks, but there's a courtesy dock for loading your passengers.
In the just over half a mile between the pier and the ramp, there is a whole lot of nothing. Lots of dirt.
The entrance to the park in located just west of the intersection of Florida 78 & US 441.
