It's October in Palm Beach County, and that means one thing: Oktoberfest! The American German Club in Lantana is hosting its 40th annual Oktoberfest starting this Friday, October 11th, and you can be sure we'll be there at least once to sample the beers, devour some traditional German foods (I'm probably going to brave the line at the pretzel booth this year - it's been too long since I had one), and enjoy the sights and sounds of the celebration.
This year's German beers include selections from Hofbräu, including Oktoberfest, Dunkel, Original, and Weizen. As for the food, it looks like currywurst is back, which should make my husband happy! Entertainment includes several bands and dance groups, and of course the beer-stein-holding contest.
Oktoberfest at the American German Club in Lantana runs for two weekends, October 11-13 and 18-20. Hours are 5PM-11PM on Fridays, noon-11PM on Saturdays, and noon-8PM on Sundays. Admission is $8, with one child 12 and under getting in free with each adult admission. Advance package tickets are available here through October 10th, and you can print a $2 discount coupon from the same site.
It's that time of year again - Oktoberfest! Let's face it, we all go to Oktoberfest for one reason - beer. But there's more to Oktoberfest than just libations.
We attend the Oktoberfest celebration at the American German Club of the Palm Beaches in Lantana every year. Clearly beer is a focus, but we also go for the food (my husband discovered currywurst here) and to check out the carnival rides (my husband is obsessed with them). There's also plenty of entertainment in the main pavilion, including bands, dancing, and beerstein-holding contests. Vendors hawk their varied wares, too. We love to hang out in the Festhaus - the main building on property - to see bands and dancers in air-conditioned comfort. The festival can get pretty crowded - but it's worth it, and cabs wait at the exit to escort the over-indulgers to their homes.
This year's Oktoberfest runs Friday-Sunday, October 12-14 and 19-21. Hours are Fridays 5PM-11PM, Saturdays noon-11PM, and Sundays noon-8PM. Admission is $8, and children under 12 are free with a paid adult entry. Free parking is offered in a lot to the west of the American German Club.
Event and ticket information can be found at the American German Club website, and you can get a coupon for $2 off admission here.
