Monument Lake Campground

Monument Lake Campground As far as campgrounds go, the one at Monument Lake is more of a "I need a place to sleep between X and Y" stop than one to use for the enjoyment of camping. The Monument Lake campground is located within the Big Cypress National Preserve, but the landscape is sparse, with some palm trees and grass, and a view of distant prairies. There are restrooms and drinking water, and sites for 26 RVs and 10 tents. There are no sewer, water, or even electric hookups here, but each site has a picnic table and a fire ring.

The Monument Lake Campground wouldn't be my first choice of campgrounds, but it wouldn't be my last, either - at least there are restrooms!

Sites are $16 per night from December 15 through April 15, with discounts available for seniors and those with an Access Pass. Use on other dates is free, but call about other dates - the web site indicates it's only open from August 28 through April 15.

The campground is located on Monument Road just north of US41/SR90/Tamiami Trail - it's around the square-ish lake on the map.
