West Lake Park

2009 Update:

All Broward County parks will be open on Tuesdays between June 8 and August 21, 2009.

Original Article:

West Lake Park is situated along the Intracoastal Waterway in Broward County. This beautiful large park is divided into two sections, North and South.

The North section of West Lake Park includes the Anne Kolb Nature Center, a banquet hall, an ampitheatre, and three trails, including a fishing pier trail leading to fishing on the Intracoastal. Pontoon boat tours are offered, and there's a 175-ft dock for boaters to use.

The South section of West Lake Park offers 8 picnic shelters for use by reservation only, a walking path, a fishing pier on Tarpon Lake, and two playgrounds. The South side of the park also features courts for tennis, basketball, racquetball, and sand volleyball. Kayaks and canoes are available for rent on the South side - call 954-926-2322 for details.

Each person over the age of five pays $1.50 to enter the South side on weekends and holidays. There is no admission fee on the North side, but visiting the Anne Kolb Nature Center costs $1.00 per person. The park is open 8AM to 6PM (closed Tuesdays) during Standard Time, and 8AM - 7:30PM (closed Tuesdays) during Daylight Savings Time. The park is closed on Veteranís Day, the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
